What’s it about?
There are only a couple of things that are actually worse than trying to get your body into shape and then becoming a fitness failure. You probably know that it takes some courage to start on a fitness program and it really take some willpower to stick to your program and avoid ditching it a couple of days later. More than half of the people who take part in some fitness program do so on a whim and drop out within the first 6 months. Boredom, busy schedules and a feeling of being fit enough to no longer need the exercising combine to convince people that exercises are not worth the effort and striving.
Set a goal
First, you must set a goal for yourself if you want to avoid being a complete fitness failure. For example, if you want to be thinner, then decide on number of pounds you would like to shed. If you want to be able to run around the park without spitting your lungs on the sidewalk, then train accordingly. But please, whatever you do, first set a clear goal so that you don’t have to guess whether you’re making a progress or not. However, make sure that your goals are realistic. What does that mean? For example, if you want to drop 1 pound per week through combination of reduced intake of calories and increased physical effort – that is a realistic goal. But, if you want to lose 50 pounds in 2 months, that would be very unrealistic goal.
Keep track of your progress
After you have a clear goal in your mind, make sure you’re always keeping track of your progress. This will keep you motivated because you will always have the visible proof of your success at whatever it is you’re doing. However, keep in mind that this tracking should be done very carefully. For example, if you are going for weight loss, do not make the mistake to weight yourself every single day. If you do this, you’ll be on your road to fitness failure! You need to know that body weight fluctuates naturally from one day to the other and depends on many factors. You have to know that it’s much too easy to be discouraged and abandon the program just because 2 extra glasses of water have messed up your weight!
You need to keep your fitness schedule as varied as possible. If you’re not a professional bodybuilder, then sooner or later, you will be bored by your exercises. Make sure you mix your exercises and change the order every week or whenever you feel boredom is starting to move in. By all means do not let yourself get to the point where you say something like: “Damn that exercise! I’m not going to do it again as long as I live!” If you just cannot come up with a good fitness plan, ask a gym trainer to help you. Those kinds of people will be glad to help you and show you some pointers.
The final word of advice from us is that you should always share the joys and problems of fitness exercises with other people. It’s not a bad idea to find a friend who also goes to the gym and go together with him or her. That way you will be able to help each other achieve your goals and share success stories or problems in between reps. A workout partner will make things look easier with a positive attitude and you can do the same thing for him or her. By the way, don’t come up with any excuses for avoiding gym! Those cheap tricks will not bring you any good and can only turn you into fitness failure!
