What is Phentermine?
Phentermine is a pill that is used to help suppress the appetite in order that you can lose weight. It is considered to be an amphetamine as well as a phenethylamine.
Phentermine is only meant to be used for a short period and when on Phentermine, it’s important that you use it with a combination of proper diet, regular exercise, and lifestyle of behavior modification.
How Phentermine works?
The drug releases a chemical which blocks the signals that the body is sending to the brain, telling it that it is hungry. Doctors will generally only prescribe Phentermine if the fact that you are overweight is posing other medical health risks to you. The Food and Drug Administration also highly recommends that Phentermine be taken for no longer than 12 weeks.
When NOT to take Phentermine?
It’s important that you discuss with your doctor any pre-existing medical conditions that you may have, as many of them can cause very serious results when taking Phentermine. There are many ingredients in the drug and so first, it’s important to eliminate the possibility of any allergic reactions to any of these ingredients.
There are also many medications that should not be taken with Phentermine and a few, but not all, of them are: dexfenfluramine, fenfluramine, furazolidone, guanadrel, and guanethidine. You should also not take Phentermine if you have high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid; glaucoma; heart complications, or have a history of substance abuse. Those who are nursing, pregnant, or trying to get pregnant should also not consider taking Phentermine.
Phentermine side effects
Phentermine carries with it many common side effects, as well as some that while they occur, are not so common. Some common side effects that you may experience while taking the drug are:
- higher blood pressure
- decrease in saliva production – resulting in a dry mouth
- a bitter taste in the mouth
- blurred vision
- heartburn or acid reflux sensations
- inability to focus
- being confused easily
- abnormal heart rate
- nausea, with or without vomiting
- skin sensitivity and becoming prone to rashes
- painful stomach
- sudden decrease or increase in sexual appetite
It’s important if you are thinking about taking Phentermine that you understand that it is a very serious drug. Although the above side effects are quite mild and common, there are other very serious side effects that are also a risk to anyone taking the drug. These side effects, although serious and life-threatening in some instances, are quite rare and include:
- convulsions or seizures
- extreme dizziness
- high fever or a fever that suddenly appears
- a feeling of hostility and feeling as though you need to attack
- abnormal blood pressure
- a feeling of light-headedness or faintness
- a sudden burst of excitement followed by a period of extreme depression
- experiencing tremors
- trembling or shaking
- exaggerated reflexes
- vomiting or diarrhea that is very excessive
- intense stomach cramps
- a feeling of extreme fatigue or weakness
Phentermine is an effective weight loss prescription pill; however it is also a very serious drug and should be taken as such. It’s important that if you take Phentermine that you only take it for the time prescribed and that you are aware of the possible side effects.
Do we recommend Phentermine to you?
Absolutely NOT. All those side effects far outweigh the short term weight loss that you may experience when you use Phentermine. Therefore we don’t recommend Phentermine to you. You will be better off if you use Proactol or ProShape RX.
